A focus on the environment. Climate change mitigation and decarbonisation.

We want to use our climate strategy to help achieve the global climate goals laid down in the Paris Agreement in line with the German government’s climate change mitigation programme. The aim is to cut carbon emissions by at least 35% by 2025. To this end, our decarbonisation strategy adheres to the following principles: 1. Reduction, 2. Transformation, 3. Compensation. The idea is to embrace these principles with the aid of the pillars known as ‘Transparent energy and carbon reporting’, ‘Optimising the building stock’ and ‘Necessary financing instruments’. Among other things, this serves as the starting point for determining the climate pathways for the residential and commercial divisions at Volkswagen Immobilien.

BLUE BUILDING as a success factor.

In order to achieve our decarbonisation strategy, we have established BLUE BUILDING, our own standard geared towards sustainability and climate change mitigation when building new residential and commercial properties. Our Blue Building standard goes far beyond the legal requirements in many areas and is regularly updated.

Energy efficiency and consumption.

Our residential property stock in Wolfsburg is fully connected to the city’s district heating network, which has a positive impact on our emissions figures. The same goes for the switch made in 2019 to Volkswagen Naturstrom for our general residential electricity needs, where the main demand for electricity lies in the buildings intended for our own use. In order to further reduce our energy consumption figures, we are constantly striving to improve the energy efficiency of our buildings. The aim is to reduce the energy requirements to less than 74 kWh/m2/a for an estimated 50% of the residential building stock and less than 100 kWh/m2/a in the commercial property division by 2026. To achieve these aims, the ambitious BLUE BUILDING requirements and the criteria for DGNB Gold certification need to be met for all new construction projects at Volkswagen Immobilien.

VWI is also committed to making existing buildings as energy-efficient as possible. To this end, corresponding climate pathways are defined for the residential and commercial divisions that help us work towards achieving the relevant climate targets.

Biodiversity. Securing the foundations of our existence.

Our biodiversity model secures the foundations of our existence: healthy food, clean water, fertile soil and a balanced climate. The plants in and around the buildings and the careful approach to dealing with wildlife equally contribute to the positive perception of the residential area and add to the value of the properties. Volkswagen Immobilien therefore attaches great importance to establishing, maintaining and restoring biodiversity on buildings themselves or adjacent exterior spaces. We gear our measures towards our own particular biodiversity strategy, with the following goals guiding our actions.
